Local Naming Ceremony (Kumasi - Cape Coast - Accra)
The Akan people of Ghana frequently name their children after the day of the week they were born and the order in which they were born. These "day names" have further meanings concerning the soul and character of the person. Middle names have considerably more variety and can refer to their birth order, twin status, or an ancestor's middle name. This naming tradition is shared throughout West Africa and the African diaspora. During the 18th–19th centuries, enslaved people in the Caribbean from the region that is modern-day Ghana were referred to as Coromantees. Traditionally in Ghana, a child would receive their Akan day name during an Outdooring, a naming ceremony eight days after birth, however some Africans born in other countries are privileged to have the opportunity to receive their names in adulthood. Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary is where to experience wild but playful Mona monkeys that have been inhabiting the protected forest for over about 200yrs. Local Drumming Lesson
The Ghanaian Drumming experience includes a quick hands-on lesson in the performance of contemporary drumming styles of West Africa. The djembe is one of West Africa's best known instruments. This goblet-shaped drum is traditionally carved from a single piece of African hardwood and topped with an animal skin as a drumhead.

W. E. B. Du Bois Memorial Centre - Ghana
The W. E. B. Du Bois Memorial Centre for Pan-African Culture is the former home and final resting place of American-born socialist, author, and civil rights activist, William Edward Burghardt Du Bois, who became a citizen of Ghana in his later years. Du Bois campaigned for African-American rights and was often referred to as the ‘Father of Pan-Africanism’. The center, on the outskirts of Accra, was where Du Bois and his wife lived for the last few years of his life, and is where they are now both buried. Along with the couple’s mausoleum, the site features his personal library, as well as a museum with a number of Du Bois’ personal belongings on display. Surrounding the mausoleum is a restaurant, an amphitheater and a research institute dedicated to Pan-African history.
Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park & Mausoleum
The Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and memorial park is located in downtown Accra, the capital of Ghana. It is dedicated to the prominent Ghanaian President Kwame Nkrumah. The memorial complex was dedicated in 1992, and is situated on the site of the former British colonial polo grounds in Accra. It is five acres in size. The mausoleum, designed by Don Arthur, houses the bodies of Kwame Nkrumah and his wife Fathia Nkrumah. It is the spot where Nkrumah made the declaration of Ghana's independence. When Ghana became independent from England, Nkrumah was its first president. He created the flag of Ghana.
Makola Market Walking Tour

The Ancestral Wall
Jerry Johnson is from California. He lives in Ghana. He works in New Ningo. He founded the Ancestral Wall. It is magnificent. There are 90 portraits of 90 heroes and sheroes and icons. Shai Hills Wildlife Reserve Tour

The Nkyinkyim Museum
The Nkyinkyim Museum is a transformative, open-air cultural institution located in Nuhalenya-Ada, approximately two hours east of Accra, Ghana. It is widely recognized for its powerful use of visual and performing arts to preserve African heritage and address the legacies of the Transatlantic Slave Trade. The museum was founded in 2019 by award-winning Ghanaian sculptor and activist Kwame Akoto-Bamfo. It is the flagship project of The Ancestor Project, which began as a cultural movement in 2006 to document the Black experience through art. The name "Nkyinkyim" is an Akan word meaning "twisting" or "intertwined". It is derived from an Adinkra symbol representing the complex and meandering nature of life’s journey, reflecting the "twists and turns" of African history. Before settling at its current site, the museum's core sculptures—the Nkyinkyim Installation—embarked on a symbolic journey, appearing at the tomb of Ghana's first president, Kwame Nkrumah, and within the dungeons of Cape Coast Castle in 2017.
Aburi Botanical Gardens
Aburi Botanical Gardens is a garden in Aburi in Eastern region of Ghana. The garden occupies an area of 64.8 hectares. It was opened in March, 1890. Boti falls is a twin waterfall located at Boti in Yilo Krobo District in the Eastern Region of Ghana. These twin falls are referred to as female and male. Boti falls takes its course from a river known locally as Ponmpon. History has it that the fall was hidden in the forest until it was discovered by a white Catholic priest.
Assin Manso Ancestral Slave River Park
Assin Manso Ancestral Slave River Park was one of the largest slave markets for gathering people to sell into slavery during the infamous trans-Atlantic slave trade. It is especially worth seeing as a prelude to viewing Cape Coast slave castle since you will be following the route taken by the ancestors of many African Americans. Assin Manso served as the place where slaves had their last bath on their journey to the diaspora.
Elmina Castle ( Door of No Return)
Elmina Castle was erected by the Portuguese in 1482 as Castelo de São Jorge da Mina, also known as Castelo da Mina or simply Mina, in present-day Elmina, Ghana. It was the first trading post built on the Gulf of Guinea, and the oldest European building in existence south of the Sahara. At the height of the trade, 30,000 slaves were passing through Elmina each year on their way to the Americas. This continued for nearly 300 hundred years in appalling conditions. There were many horrors witnessed here, as it is where the slaves were detained and tortured before being shipped to the 'New World'. This tour may steer your emotions, plan accordingly.
Cape Coast Castle
Often described as one of the most emotional stops on any Ghanaian journey. Cape Coast Castle is one of about forty "slave castles", or large commercial forts, built on the Gold Coast of West Africa by European traders. It was originally a Portuguese "feitoria" or trading post, established in 1555, which they named Cabo Corso. His castle in Cape Coast, Ghana—once known as the Gold Coast of West Africa—was one of around 40 “slave castles” that served as slave prisons.
Kakum National Rain Forest Park & Canopy Walk
Kakum National Park is on coast of southern Ghana, in West Africa. It protects an area of rainforest, home to endangered mammals such as forest elephants, bongo antelopes and primates like the Diana monkey. The park is rich in butterflies and birds, including African grey parrots and hornbills. The Canopy Walkway, suspended 30 meters above the ground, provides treetop views of the forest. The Wli waterfalls is the highest water fall in West Africa located in GhanaThe falls is known locally as Agoomatsa waterfalls - meaning, "Allow Me to Flow." It is located in the Hohoe municipality of the Volta Region, the land of the Ewe culture. It is approximately 280 kilometers from the capital Accra. The falls are beautiful. If planning to climb the top of the mountain, have 6-7 hours of hiking in mind and it takes about 3-4 hours to reach the middle of the mountain. The most desired option is to just walk to the floor of the falls and take in the beautiful scenery.

Kintampo WaterFalls
Kintampo complex is the period in prehistory that saw the transition to sedentism in West Africa, specifically in the Bono East region of Ghana and parts of eastern Côte d'Ivoire. Kintampo waterfalls is one of the highest waterfalls in Bono East of Ghana. Also known as Sanders Falls during the colonial days, it is located on the Pumpum river, a tributary of the Black Volta, about 4 kilometres north of Kintampo municipality, on the Kumasi–Tamale road. One of the main natural attractions in the area, is formed by three (3) main drops where the longest drop measures 25 meters (82 ft) in height and after a number of steps, and cascades, the river falls about 70 meters (230 ft). It takes its source at a village called Pumpumatifi, which is about 10 kilometers away from the waterfalls.
