Mole National Park Safari

2 Day Max 20 people None

Mole National Park is Ghana’s largest wildlife refuge, covering approximately 4,912 km² of savanna and gallery forest. It is the premier destination in the country for a classic West African safari experience, most famous for its population of over 600 African elephants. The Safari Experience Unlike many East African parks, Mole offers the unique opportunity for walking safaris, as there are no large predators like lions (leopards and hyenas are rare and mostly nocturnal). Foot Safaris: Led by armed rangers, these typically take place at 7:00 am and 3:30 pm. You can often get within 20 metres of elephants at watering holes. Jeep Safaris: Driving tours use specially adapted 4x4 vehicles to cover more ground and reach deeper parts of the park. Night Safaris: These two-hour excursions start at 6:00 pm to spot nocturnal species like hyenas, genets, and civet cats. Wildlife to See: Beyond elephants, you will frequently see warthogs, baboons, velvet monkeys, and various antelopes (Kob, Roan, Waterbuck). The park also hosts over 330 bird species. Cultural & Local Excursions A tour of Mole is often paired with nearby cultural landmarks: Larabanga Mosque: Located just 3 km from the park entrance, this 15th-century "Mecca of West Africa" is one of the oldest Sudanese-style mud mosques in the region. Mognori Eco-Village: A 15-minute drive away, offering canoe safaris on the Mole River, traditional drumming, and shea butter processing workshops. Getting There: Air: Fly from Accra (Kotoka International Airport) to Tamale International Airport (approx. 50 minutes), then take a 2–3 hour drive to the park. Road: A direct drive from Accra takes roughly 12–15 hours. Accommodation: Zaina Lodge: A luxury eco-lodge with individual tented chalets and an infinity pool overlooking the savanna. Mole Motel: A more basic, affordable option featuring a swimming pool and a viewing deck over a popular elephant watering hole. Camping: Public campsites are available near the park headquarters.
